Around the world with Bora: Guatemala

This month, we're taking you to Guatemala, to experience one of the finest coffees Latin America has to offer... Guatemala has been growing coffee since the 1850s and is one of the top producers in Central America. Coffees from Guatemala are simply beautiful! The beans that we have sourced for this month's guest coffee are from plantations in volcanic valleys surrounding Antigua. The coffee is surrounded by three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego & Acatenango. The plantations have rich volcanic soil and excellent growing conditions, at an altitude of 1650 metres. This coffee is chocolatey and sweet with a beautiful body. What have we been up to in Uganda?

At the start of June, we donated £175.00 to our partners, The Zuri Project Uganda, to support development projects in a coffee growing region in Uganda. After consultation with our Ugandan partners, we've decided that this money will be used to facilitate a process known as 'gap filling' at our coffee plantation at Kihembe Community Vocational Secondary School. Since we opened our doors in 2017, we're proud to say that we've planted 1500 coffee trees at the school site as part of our commitment to sustainable community development in Uganda. We're growing our coffee organically, and due to unavoidable challenges such as pests and too much sunshine due to climate change, many of the trees that we've planted have died....

The scourge of colonialism has never gone away. Many of us Brits know too little about this dark chapter in our history, yet it lingers in every corner of the previously colonised world today. Colonialism was a collection of acts so heinous that it condemned millions around the world to lives of servitude and assimilation. The colonisers pillaged their way through so called ‘uncivilised’ nations, denouncing their cultures and beliefs as ‘savage,’ before systemically imposing Western ideology, religion and culture on the unsuspecting populations. Nowhere was colonialism so pronounced than on the continent of Africa. Due to the increasing popularity of our delicious, vegan friendly cakes, particularly our Thursday specials, we've made a few changes to the pre-order system to make it much easier for you and to ensure that you don't miss out! Revised Opening Hours!

You spoke and we listened! It's been great seeing so many of you again these past few weeks, and one of the things that we've been hearing a lot is that you want us to extend our opening hours. So, we're doing exactly that!  From Sunday 7th June, we will open from 10.30am - 3.00pm and we will be open every Sunday thereafter. Then, from Monday 8th June, our new opening hours will be 9.30am - 4.00pm.
